Architects Shabbir H Lilamwala and Murtaza Lilamwala have designed a stunning residence for the Korani family in Ghatkopar, blending design, home automation, and air purification technology seamlessly.

Designed by Homework Design headed by Architects Shabbir H Lilamwala and Murtaza Lilamwala Principal Architect Homework Design, this residence epitomizes opulence, sophistication, functionality, and a seamless blend of home automation creating an unparalleled living experience.

Nestled within a prestigious high-rise in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, this luxurious 5-bedroom apartment, meticulously crafted by Homework Design, stands as a testament to architectural excellence, interior sophistication, and seamless integration of technology.

Upon stepping into the foyer, guests are greeted by an aura of elegance and grandeur. The interiors boast a harmonious fusion of contemporary design elements with classic accents, creating a timeless appeal. The spacious living room serves as the focal point of the residence, exuding warmth and comfort with plush furnishings, bespoke artwork, and tasteful decor pieces curated to perfection.

The kitchen, a culinary haven, is a testament to both style and functionality. Clad in premium materials and equipped with state-of-the-art appliances, it seamlessly integrates with the living space, allowing for seamless entertainment and culinary experiences.

One of the most striking features of this apartment is its impeccable ventilation. Natural light floods every corner of the abode, enhancing the sense of openness and serenity. The strategically placed windows not only provide ample sunlight but also offer breathtaking views of the city skyline, serving as a constant reminder of Mumbai’s bustling energy.

The five luxuriously appointed bedrooms are havens of tranquility and indulgence. Each room is thoughtfully designed to offer the utmost comfort, with sumptuous bedding, custom-made furniture, and intricate detailing that reflects the owner’s discerning taste. Moreover, the city view from the bedrooms adds an extra layer of allure, offering a picturesque backdrop that evolves with the changing hues of the sky.

In addition to the lavish residential quarters, this apartment boasts an expansive office space, perfectly suited for remote work or business endeavors. The balcony l provides a serene outdoor retreat, ideal for relaxation or entertaining guests amidst the backdrop of Mumbai’s skyline.

Integration of Automation and Technology

The design team worked with System Integrator Harsh Shah from Beyond Alliance. Harsh Shah has worked towards providing user-friendly solutions tailored to the specific needs of clients. Adding his insight Murtaza Lilamwala says, “There are three non-negotiables for any tech design that we plan: (1) It has to work. (2) It must be easy to use yet fulfill all needs and (3) It has to be value for money.”

The home has automated lights, fans, curtains, AV, HVAC, and Integrated security solutions in this house. The Crestron lighting design and control are executed to perfection, with natural light in the space creatively manipulated to harmonize with artificial light. Motorized shades and drapes play a crucial role in achieving this seamless integration.

The attention to detail is evident in every aspect, with keypads meticulously selected from around the world. Each button is laser engraved, ensuring user-friendliness for individuals of all ages and tech-savvy levels. This house boasts a living room equipped with a motorised ultrashort throw projector with an optical dNp screen and an immersive in-ceiling audio Dolby Atmos surround sound system.

Speaking about the security systems Murtaza Lilamwala says, “We have also used an integrated security solution, where a facial ID and biometric reader is waiting to unlock the space at the speed and efficiency at which our iPhone unlocks itself. As a visitor notifies you with the same gadget a display phone in the kitchen or next to their bed helps them to FaceTime the visitor before they let them in. The same display can stream music in the room and control the colour temperature and intensity of every light to set the right vibe for that time of the day.”

The user experience is further enhanced through tailored Apps catering to individual needs, allowing customization at the user level with controls on their phones, tablets, watches and voice commands.

Balanced Ventilation with Energy Recovery

Modern apartments are designed air tight for comfort and avoiding noise and air pollution. This results in lack of adequate cross-ventilation to the occupants in the house. We rely on air conditioning systems to achieve comfort however fresh air ventilation is sacrificed as a result.

“To solve this problem, we have opted for Blutherm, introducing the concept of Balanced Ventilation with energy recovery to cater to the above scenario of ventilation in modern houses. Balanced Ventilation with Energy recovery involves a machine that supplies measured filtered fresh air in the living spaces like bedrooms, study rooms, and living rooms in the house, and extracts stale air from bathrooms, kitchens, and utility rooms at the same time. During this process both streams of air pass through a heat exchange module in the machine, that transfers the temperature of the air by up to 90% without mixing the air, thereby pre-cooling the outside fresh air passively before it enters the house, resulting in a reduced load on the air conditioning systems.” Explains MURTAZA LILAMWALA.

The Benefits and Functionality:

The benefits of implementing Blutherm system are multifaceted, addressing crucial aspects of indoor air quality and comfort. Firstly, it ensures a constant supply of fresh, filtered air, promoting a healthier living environment and enhancing overall hygiene by reducing the presence of airborne contaminants. Moreover, the system effectively curtails the formation of mold and fungus, contributing to the maintenance of a clean and sanitary atmosphere within the household.

In addition to its health benefits, the system offers significant energy-saving advantages. Through passive cooling, it alleviates the strain on traditional air conditioning units, resulting in reduced energy consumption and lower utility costs. Furthermore, by facilitating a quieter and pollution-free indoor environment, it enables occupants to enjoy a peaceful and tranquil living space without the disturbances of outdoor noise and air pollution.

While the Energy Recovery Ventilation machine serves as a cornerstone of the system, the ducting infrastructure is equally instrumental in its success. Blutherm has developed a manifold ducting system featuring semi-rigid antimicrobial flexible ducts with smooth linings, meticulously designed to seamlessly integrate with the machines and maximize operational efficiency.

The benefits of these ducts are manifold. Their 3-inch diameter allows for installation with minimal false ceiling margins, streamlining the implementation process. The manifold design effectively prevents cross-talk between rooms, ensuring privacy and comfort for occupants. Additionally, the antimicrobial smooth lining of the ducts promotes hygienic airflow, while their flexible nature enables versatile deployment in various configurations. Moreover, each duct is pre-engineered to carry a specific volume of air, simplifying calculations and ensuring precise implementation on-site.

The Helios KWL system from Germany has been successfully deployed, further attesting to the efficacy of the balanced ventilation with energy recovery solution. Equipped with Electronic Commutating motors, an integrated IoT module, and humidity sensors, the system operates autonomously, adjusting airflow based on indoor air quality, and enhancing convenience and efficiency for the client.

This luxury apartment designed by Homework Design, exemplifies a harmonious blend of architectural brilliance, interior elegance, and cutting-edge technology integration.

The Samsung Neo QLED 8K also features Active Voice Amplifier Pro, which analyzes voice and background noise by AI to optimize your TV listening experience so you can enjoy various content as if you are in the front row of a stadium or movie theater. Samsung Neo QLED 8K also features Tizen OS Home, which offers the latest apps, services, personalized content, and service recommendations to upscale your entertainment experience.

As for viewers with different needs, Samsung also provides innovative accessibility features. A sign language feature in Samsung Neo QLED can be easily controlled with gestures for the hearing impaired, and an Audio Subtitle feature turns text subtitles into spoken words in real-time for those with low vision.

Furthermore, Samsung is introducing the new The Premiere 8K, a projector that features not only a 150-inch display, but also the world’s first wireless 8K transmission for a projector. With The Premiere 8K, users will be able to enjoy a full-scale viewing experience like that of the cinema in the comfort of their own homes.

As for sound, Samsung also introduced Music Frame, a speaker with a customizable cover that integrates seamlessly into users’ homes. Via Q-Symphony, the Music Frame syncs with Samsung TVs and soundbars, bringing enriched bass and surround sound of dual built-in woofers to the home with minimal effort.

Samsung has also made major upgrades to Ballie, the rolling AI robot first introduced at CES 2020. Ballie has now evolved into your AI companion capable of interacting with other smart devices to provide customized services such as taking care of bothersome tasks or projecting images and videos on walls so that users can view key information for their daily lives such as weather or other relevant content wherever they are.

To enhance kitchen and food experiences, Samsung is unveiling the Bespoke 4-Door Flex™ Refrigerator with AI Family Hub™+1 2. This refrigerator boasts a 32-inch screen that features the new AI Vision Inside3, which uses an internal camera to recognize up to 33 different food items that are put into and taken out of the refrigerator and suggests recipes using those ingredients. Users can also set “use by dates” on the Bespoke 4-Door Flex™ Refrigerator with AI Family Hub™ screen for food items, which then allows the refrigerator to send a notification when the set date draws near. By conveniently helping to save money by reducing food waste, these AI features enable more environmentally conscious lifestyles. The Anyplace Induction range takes AI connectivity a step further, as recipes saved on Samsung Food can be shared to the cooktop’s 7-inch display so that users can easily follow along while cooking.

Samsung’s AI technology extends to appliances beyond the kitchen, as well. The new Bespoke AI Laundry Combo™ — an All-in-One washer and dryer — features the AI Hub4, which is a 7-inch LCD display that acts as an intuitive control center for managing laundry, allowing users to enjoy a simple washing and drying experience. It personalizes washing and drying by remembering users’ habits and using machine learning to suggest cycles. Meanwhile, Samsung’s upcoming vacuum and mop robot cleaner, the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo™5, utilizes AI technology to provide a more convenient, effective cleaning experience. With AI Object Recognition upgraded from the previous robot cleaner lineup, it will be able to distinguish more objects, as well as detect stains and spaces6. The Bespoke Jet Bot Combo™ also recognizes the type of floor it encounters — along with carpet length — and adjusts its settings accordingly.

Samsung’s Vision for SmartThings:

Jaeyeon Jung, Executive Vice President and Head of SmartThings, highlighted the exciting new ways in which AI technology is impacting the relationship between users and their devices, including Samsung’s vision for SmartThings: The more Samsung devices a customer uses, the smarter those devices become and the better they can understand and support daily life.

Spatial AI is the key to enabling this vision, by helping devices understand the living space and routines of the user, thus enabling more a personalized home management experience. SmartThings uses LiDAR9 on connected devices like robot vacuums to create digital floor plans so users can easily check the status and location of all their devices.  And in March, SmartThings will roll out the upgraded 3D Map View for a more detailed experience on Samsung smartphones and TVs. Furthermore, a simple QR code will allow users to add family and friends to their SmartThings ecosystem, so that every member of the household can create their own routines.

Using smart sensors and AI, SmartThings will be able to detect unusual circumstances, such as a fall, and send alerts to designated family and caregivers10.  Also, thanks to the Galaxy SmartTag2, users can track their pets’ activities and digitally store identifying information by attaching the tag to a collar or harness11.

Another point EVP Jung discussed was how the Bixby voice assistant is allowing smart homes to become more dynamic with its enhanced AI capabilities. Bixby can now automatically route commands to the most appropriate devices based on an understanding of the user’s location and activities.  Key technologies like Multi Device Wakeup combined with a shared communication protocol, enable Bixby to listen to commands with all the devices in a room but then only perform the requested action on the most relevant device. So if a user is in the kitchen watching a recipe video on their Family Hub™, and they can call out, “Hey, Bixby! Play music!”  At that point, music will play from the user’s smart speaker, but the recipe video will continue to play on the Family Hub™, uninterrupted.

The TV, with the Samsung Daily+ service, will increasingly become a central hub for much of this smart home functionality, while also granting access to a variety of additional services. These include video calls through ConnecTime, video veterinary consultation services12, and Workout Tracker — through which workout data can be transferred to Samsung’s smart watches. Samsung also announced the new Samsung Now+ service, which displays useful information about users’ homes, such as the weather or a live security camera feed from a home security system without the TV even being turned on.  As is the case with SmartThings features, users can also access this information via voice command.

Samsung Focuses on Security and Privacy Across Devices

In this future of AI-enabled, deeply interconnected devices, Samsung recognizes that security and privacy are paramount. Shin Baik from the Mobile eXperience Security Team discussed the company’s security solutions as a foundation for the hyper-connected era.

One such solution is Samsung Knox Matrix, which now provides end-to-end encryption across many Samsung Galaxy smartphones and smart TVs. The technology will allow devices to monitor each other to identify and isolate security threats. Knox Vault, which helps keep user data safe on some of Samsung’s most popular devices, has been expanded to cover more devices connected by SmartThings, such as Samsung Neo QLED 8K TVs. Additionally, Samsung’s partnerships with major tech companies allow users to experience security and privacy in a way that is tailored to their specific needs.

Samsung is adding new features to increase device accessibility, such as digital appliances responding to hands-free gestures. Additionally, mobile devices provide auto-generated captions during calls, and TVs and displays offer a new, AI-enabled text-to-speech feature that converts subtitles into spoken audio. To further aid those with low vision, Relumino Together is a new viewing mode on Samsung TVs that enables users of all abilities to watch TV together, with or without visual adjustments. Now, everyone can enjoy home entertainment together at the same time.

Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation have entered into a collaboration with Samsung Electronics, solidifying a strategic alliance on January 3, 2024, to integrate Samsung’s ‘SmartThings’ IoT platform with their connected car services. The collective objective is to blur the lines between residential and mobility spaces, enriching the value of driving throughout all phases – before, during, and after.

The partnership brings forth innovative services, such as the Car-to-Home feature enabling users to remotely and hands-free control various home appliances through voice commands while driving. Additionally, the Home-to-Car service empowers users to monitor vehicle status, manage functions, and facilitate charging operations before and after driving.

Customers of Hyundai and Kia will experience seamless connectivity with Over-the-Air (OTA) and USB-based updates. Through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Samsung Electronics, the companies aim to extend the reach of Car-to-Home and Home-to-Car services to international markets, fostering a global integration of smart living and smart mobility.

Under this collaboration, Hyundai and Kia vehicle owners gain the capability to command digital appliances from their car’s in-car infotainment systems using touch and voice controls. Simultaneously, they can employ AI speakers, TVs, and smartphone apps to remotely control various vehicle functions.

This groundbreaking synergy results from the seamless integration of Hyundai and Kia’s connected car services with Samsung’s IoT platform, ‘SmartThings’. As a consequence, customers are poised to experience uninterrupted connectivity, seamlessly integrating automotive and residential aspects into their daily lives.
